DIY how to take off rear wheel and refit correctly for tire change on ebike

Changing a tire on your own can save you time and money. But do you know how to properly take off the rear wheel and refit it correctly? Follow this expert guide for a seamless DIY tire change.

Gather the Necessary Tools

Before you begin, make sure you have all the tools required for the job. This includes a 18mm Spanner, 10mm spanner, a knife, a few zip ties and your new tire and or tube.

Loosen the Axle Nut

Locate the axle nut on the rear wheel and use the 18mm spanner to loosen it. This nut holds the wheel in place and must be removed to take off the wheel.

Remove the Rear Wheel

Once the axle nut is loosened, carefully slide the rear wheel out of its position. Be mindful of any spacers or washers that may be present and keep track of their placement for reassembly.

Inspect the Tire

With the rear wheel removed, inspect the tire for any damage or wear. This is also a good time to check the tire pressure and tread depth to ensure optimal performance.

Refit the Rear Wheel

When refitting the rear wheel, align it with the axle and slide it back into place. Make sure the spacers and washers are in the correct position before tightening the axle nut securely.

Test the Wheel

After refitting the rear wheel, lower the vehicle back to the ground and give the wheel a gentle spin to ensure it rotates smoothly. Double-check the axle nut to confirm it is tightened.

By following these steps carefully and precisely, you can successfully take off the rear wheel and refit it correctly for a tire change. Remember, safety always comes first, so if you are unsure at any point, consult a professional mechanic for assistance.
